An artist collective formed in Kyoto in 2022 by Masataka Hosoo, 12th generation of the long-established Nishijin weaver HOSOO, and Shinichiro Yoshida, artist, collector and researcher of natural-fibre cloth. By deconstructing and reconstructing early-modern textiles from Yoshida's collection with a contemporary eye, they create works in which past, present and future intersect, embodying the Japanese aesthetics of beauty through age and the concept of "ma". Based at their gallery Shinmyoan, they continue research into old cloth, workshops and lectures, working across craft, art, history and culture.
