It was last autumn, on the day of the All Brown Tea Gathering.
During a brief break, we all paid a visit to the Nakaya Ukichiro Museum of Snow and Ice.
Beyond a veil of mist that seemed to connect this world with the next, the majestic Hakusan range came into view, and looking at the sharply defined peaks I found myself murmuring, "They look delicious."
Tsurumi-kun immediately replied, "I'd like to dig a fork right into that part on the right," getting unexpectedly specific — and just like that, we casually agreed that next time we would hold a Layered Tea Gathering.
There are things that only become visible by continuing, by layering one thing upon another. Perhaps it is the promise of a next time that keeps us going.
I hope to see you all again at that tea gathering. We will carefully layer the dough and the aromas, so please enjoy them all at once. Into everything we have layered, at the fleeting vanishing point, we place a sweet prayer.
